Lance is Chief Whip and Environmental and Energy Spokesperson for the Independent Democrats and will be joining the dots for us with the key initiatives that affect South Africa with Climate Change. There is an opportunity to network and grab a bite to eat from 12:30 onwards.

This talk will try and make sense of the different initiatives that have been embarked upon, on both a global and a national level to try and confront what has often been described as one of the greatest challenges facing humanity over the 21st Century. It will draw from the speakers insights that have been gleamed from having confronted this issue in different forums over the past ten years, ranging from the ever frustrating international negotiations through to parliamentary debates over South Africa’s twenty year energy future to study tours to renewable energy companies in Germany and China. Considering himself an optimistic environmentalist, the speaker will attempt to identify windows of opportunity in this confusing array of programmes and sketch out tentative ways in which international co-operation can be fostered to confront one of the defining issues of our generation.
